Nursing student, water delivery man gunned down in Mandeville

Police in Manchester are probing a double murder after a 24-year-old nursing student and a 21-year-old water delivery man were shot dead along Caledonia Road near Horse Shoe Corner in Mandeville on Saturday night.

The victims have been identified as Deneekia Pounall, 24, a nursing student of Heartease District, Mandeville, and Sadefa Henry, 21, a water delivery man of Marvel Close Top, Greenvale, Mandeville.

According to police reports, the pair was attacked by an unknown gunman at about 8:05 p.m. They were rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where they later died while undergoing treatment.

The Mandeville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is leading the investigation into the killings.

The double murder comes as Manchester records an increase in homicides. Police statistics show that up to July 11, the parish had recorded 18 murders, compared to 15 during the corresponding period last year, representing a 20 per cent increase.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force recently changed the divisional commander in Manchester, replacing Superintendent Carey Duncan with Deputy Superintendent Odean Dennis.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Mandeville CIB, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
